Light sculpture
'The process for me is as important as the physical expression, each light sculpture I create develops my connection to womanhood. In it’s entirety, this very personal process combines photography, performance, light and sculpture.’
In the air, skates on, curls bouncing off her shoulders, holding tightly, gracefully floating. I never knew my grandmother but I do have a couple of photographs of her. Wherever I travel I take this photograph of her with
me. When creating these light patterns I have roller skates on, lights attached to my body, Roy Orbison blasting and it’s a late night in an empty church. While I am dancing in the dark, long exposure photographs capture these delicate light drawings that my body creates. I print these photographs and then from this point I can create a light sculpture to float in the physical space.
